Chief Justice of India: D.Y. Chandrachud

Early Life and Education

D.Y. Chandrachud was born on January 27, 1955, in Buffalo, New York. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi, and his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Delhi.

Career

Chandrachud began his legal career as an advocate at the Supreme Court of India in 1982. He was appointed as a judge of the Bombay High Court in 1998 and as the Chief Justice of that court in 2013. In 2016, he was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India.

Personal Life

Chandrachud married Jane Sullivan in 1996 and they have two children, Josephine and Jack.

Current Position

Chandrachud was sworn in as the 50th Chief Justice of India on November 9, 2022.
