Boeings Starliner Crew Capsule Arrives At International Space Station

Boeing's Starliner Crew Capsule Arrives at International Space Station

First Commercial Crew to Reach ISS

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – June 5, 2024 – Boeing's CST-100 Starliner spacecraft, carrying NASA astronauts Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita "Suni" Williams, has successfully docked with the International Space Station (ISS) after a 27-hour journey. This marks the first time that a commercial crew has reached the ISS.

About the Starliner

The Starliner is a reusable spacecraft designed to transport astronauts to and from the ISS. It was developed in collaboration with NASA's Commercial Crew Program and has a capacity for seven crew members. The spacecraft launched on June 2, 2024, from Cape Canaveral, Florida, aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket.

Historic Mission

Wilmore and Williams became the first people to fly on the Starliner. Their mission, known as OFT-2, is a test flight to demonstrate the spacecraft's capabilities and safety before transporting NASA crews to the ISS for operational missions. The Starliner's arrival at the ISS is a major milestone in the development of commercial spaceflight. It opens the door for private companies to provide transportation services to the ISS and beyond, reducing NASA's reliance on Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
